Türkiye's central bank policy rate was 36.0% in October 2026, according to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Housing Market Group's calculation from BIS figures shows a change of -1 percentage points between September 2026 and October 2026. This is the first move in the series covered by our data. The rate had stayed at 37.0% in June, July, August and September 2026.
The policy rate is the benchmark set by a central bank, and it feeds into the cost of borrowing across an economy, including mortgage lending. In Türkiye the October 2026 figure is lower than in each of the preceding months shown in the BIS data, but it remains far above the levels recorded in the other economies Housing Market Group tracks for the same month.
Brazil comes closest. Its central bank policy rate was 13.75% in October 2026, according to the BIS, and Housing Market Group's calculation from BIS figures shows it fell by 1.25 percentage points compared with October 2025. In Australia, the Reserve Bank of Australia reports a policy rate of 4.6% in October 2026. Based on Reserve Bank of Australia figures, Housing Market Group calculates that this was up by 1 percentage points on October 2025.
The United Kingdom's policy rate was 3.75% in October 2026, according to the Bank of England. That is lower by 0.25 percentage points than in October 2025, based on Housing Market Group's calculation from Bank of England figures. Canada, Germany and Spain each recorded a policy rate of 2.5% in October 2026. The Bank of Canada figure was up 0.25 percentage points on October 2025. The rates reported by the Deutsche Bundesbank for Germany and by the Banco de España for Spain each rose by 0.5 percentage points over the same period, according to Housing Market Group's calculations from those publishers' figures.
Taken together, the October 2026 figures show a mixed picture across these economies. Brazil and the United Kingdom had lower policy rates than a year earlier. Australia, Canada, Germany and Spain had higher ones. Türkiye's monthly series moved down in October 2026 after a stretch with no change from June to September 2026. Even after that move, Türkiye's rate of 36.0% remained well above Brazil's 13.75% and many times higher than the 2.5% recorded in Canada, Germany and Spain.
The fact sheet available for this article does not include a year-on-year change for Türkiye's policy rate. It also has no regional breakdown within the country and no Housing Market Group platform data on search demand or listings for the period. The comparison here is therefore limited to Türkiye's recent monthly path and to policy rates in other economies in October 2026.
